The Paris Wife - *****

I just finished this one and I really loved it.  It tells the story in first person of Hadley Hemingway, Ernest's first wife.  It brilliantly lays out the story of their genuine love story just after the end of the first World War.  Hadley and Ernest struggle for money and move to Paris where they become part of the incredible community of artists and writers including F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ezra Pound, Gertrude Stein etc.

After reading this book I am turned on to reading more about Hemingway.  More about his later wives and later years.  And will also attempt to read some of his books.

Doing some research about other books led me down a trail of several different authors and stories that interested me.

I have downloaded a crazy number of book samples which I'll take with me to Mexico and see where I start and where they all take me.  It's an exciting thought.

Sometimes there are times when I think there isn't a single book out there that will interest me.  I'm not sure how I stumbled across The Paris Wife...but I am very glad I did.

I want to see Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris again and I want to go to Paris again.

The hurt that Hadley experienced was palpable and truly made me heartbroken for her.  But, as I suspected, she followed up her romance with Ernest with a lovely, stable gentleman and from all accounts, had a very nice life.  I was happy for her.  And intrigued by Ernest.

A terribly late start.

There are just so many times that I can't remember if I've read a book or not, or what I thought about one that I have, that I have decided to keep a brief jot note book review blog. We will see if I keep it up.  I have read so many books I feel badly about the ones I won't have notes on here - but that is a rather silly reason to not start.   As I am leaving for Mexico tomorrow with the full intention of reading like a fiend while I am there...I could begin well with some interesting reviews.  Having just finished The Paris Wife, I feel like I am on a whirlwind of discovery of new and interesting books.  So rather than the same serials (which I love) like Nelson Demille, Daniel Silva, John Lescrourt, Michael Connelly, Philip Meyer, Philip Kerr etc etc - these will be new and different.  So - a good time to stat.
